Sustainability at TOMS
A thriving humanity means a thriving planet.
Our mission has always been using business to improve lives, and that includes taking good care of the place we all call home. We don’t have all the answers, but we’re committed to making choices that benefit our customers, employees, and the planet—from the materials and vendors we choose to the way we get each product to you.
Expand earthwise™ to include more products rooted in earth-friendly materials and processes.
Increase our B Corp environmental score by working to reduce waste and energy use, and by exploring an end-of-use program for our shoes.
Expand our use of sustainable cotton, sourcing 100% sustainable cotton by 2025.
Continue to source 100% of our packaging from sustainably managed forests and ensure it’s made with at least 80% recycled materials.
Measure our carbon footprint in 2020 and improve it year over year.
Report our progress in our annual impact report.
We don’t use the term “earth-friendly” loosely. In order for a product to be considered earthwise™, at least one of its main components must contain earth-friendly materials, and at a minimum percentage.
REPREVE® recycled polyester is made from post-consumer plastic bottles via a process that’s light on water usage and greenhouse gas emissions.
Our plant dye process uses pigments derived from natural botanicals.
Organic cotton is grown without toxic chemicals or genetically modified seeds.
TENCEL™ Lyocell is created from wood pulp that’s sourced from responsibly managed forests.
Green EVA outsoles are derived from sugar cane and are carbon negative.
Hemp, linen, and jute are preferred eco fibers because they consume less water than traditional fibers and require less chemicals to grow.
OrthoLite™ insoles are lightweight, breathable and made with more sustainable materials, like recycled rubber.
The strobel board, the part of the shoe attaching the insole and outsole, is made with recycled polyester.
Mineral glass lenses are made with natural silica and soda ash.
Bioplastic frames are made from 100% biodegradable plant-based material.
Our B Corp certification recognizes our commitment to the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.
The Leather Working Group (LWG) certifies leather manufacturing facilities based on environmental performance in areas such as water and energy use, air emissions and waste. Through our partnership with LWG, we source 100% of our leather from gold and silver rated LWG leather manufacturers.
The FLA guides our efforts to demonstrate substantial compliance with the Workplace Code of Conduct throughout our global supply chain.
Our commitment to Canopy’s conservation standards encourages us to continue to source all wood-based material from sustainably managed forests.
At TOMS, we're expanding our sustainable business practices, like sourcing greener packaging and reducing our carbon footprint. We’re also offering more earthwise™ shoes and eyewear, all of which use earth-friendly materials and processes, such as organic cotton, REPREVE® recycled polyester, plant dyed canvas, and biodegradable frames. We strive for transparency, and to implement policies that support a positive impact on both our workforce and planet.
